FAQ
Any Questions? Answered
Everything you need to know about sending messages through time - and how PSFutureMail makes that moment of reconnection possible.
What is PSFutureMail?
PSFutureMail is a digital time capsule service that lets you compose messages and schedule them for delivery on a future date of your choice. You write a letter now, pick when you want it to arrive - whether that's next month or many years from now - and we hold it securely until that moment. It's designed for capturing thoughts, goals, and reflections to revisit later.
Why use PSFutureMail instead of Gmail's scheduled send or FutureMe?
Gmail ruins the surprise - your letter sits in your inbox, visible to anyone who opens your email, and you're reminded of it every time you check mail. FutureMe charges $2 per email or $12/year; we're cheaper and give you one free letter per year. We're built for this: edit anytime, privacy-first, and your letter arrives as a gift - not another item in your inbox.
Is PSFutureMail free to use?
You can create one free letter per year at no cost. If you'd like to schedule more letters, we offer subscription plans. Visit our pricing page for details.
How does the free tier limit work?
Free users can schedule one email per calendar year. You can receive unlimited emails. The limit is year-based, so scheduling on December 31 and January 1 is fine - they're in different years.
How long can I use my per-email credits?
When you buy per-email credits, they're valid for one year from the date of purchase. Use them anytime within that period. Any unused credits expire after one year.
When is an email credit used? Can I get a refund if I delete a scheduled letter?
Only scheduling an email for future delivery uses one credit. Saving your letter as a draft is completely free - you can create and save as many drafts as you like without using any credits. Once you schedule a letter, one credit is deducted immediately and cannot be reversed. If you later delete or cancel that scheduled letter, the credit will not be restored. Please schedule only when you are sure you want the letter to be delivered.
Is there a limit on how many emails I can send?
Yes. You can send up to 100 emails per year, whether you're on the pay-per-email plan or the yearly subscription. This limit applies to all paid plans.
Can I attach files to my letters?
Pay-per-email and yearly subscribers can attach files to each letter: up to 10 MB combined for images and video. Free accounts are text-only. Attachments are stored securely and only you can see them (Unless of course your letter is public and anoymous, in which case, anyone can see them)
How long can my letter be?
Each letter can be up to 100,000 characters long, which is roughly 10,000 - 15,000 words. That should be more than enough to capture any thoughts, reflections, or stories you want to send to your future self.
How far in advance can I schedule a letter?
You can schedule letters for delivery up to many years in the future. When composing, you'll see the full range of available dates. Pick any date within that window and your letter will be delivered on that day.
Can I view or edit a letter after I've scheduled it?
Yes. As long as the letter hasn't been sent yet, you can open it from your dashboard, read it, make changes, or adjust the delivery date. Once the scheduled time has passed and the letter has been delivered, it can no longer be edited.
How is my data kept private and secure?
Your letters are encrypted with industry-standard encryption - the same used by banks and governments worldwide. They are private by default; we do not share your content with third parties. We use database redundancy, automatic backups, 24/7 monitoring, and audit trails for delivery. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How are my letters backed up and protected from data loss?
Your letters are backed up automatically and stored with multi-region database redundancy. This means your data survives hardware failures, disasters, and regional outages. We monitor our systems 24/7 and your words are preserved for the long run.
What is the audit trail and how does it help me?
We maintain an audit trail of delivery attempts and status for your letters. This lets you verify that your letter reached its destination and helps us troubleshoot any delivery issues. It also supports accountability and transparency in how we handle your data.
Do I need an account to use PSFutureMail?
Yes. Creating an account lets you manage your letters, edit or reschedule them, and see what you've sent. It also helps us deliver your letters reliably and gives you a place to track everything you've scheduled.
When exactly will my letter be delivered?
Your letter is sent on the date you selected, at the time you chose during scheduling. We deliver to the email address associated with your letter. Make sure that address is correct and that you can receive mail at it on the delivery date.
Can I send letters to someone else, or only to myself?
You can send letters to yourself or to other people. When composing, you specify the recipient's email address. The letter is delivered to that address on the scheduled date, whether it's yours or someone else's.
What if my email address changes before the letter is delivered?
No problem at all. Simply head to your dashboard, open each scheduled letter you'd like to update, and change the recipient email to your new address. Save your changes and your letters will be delivered to the new address on their scheduled dates. It's that easy.
What happens if one or more recipient emails are deleted or unreachable?
If one or more recipient email addresses are deleted, invalid, or unreachable (e.g., full inbox, server down), we retry delivery for up to 48 hours. Recipients whose emails are valid and reachable will receive the letter. Those whose addresses are unreachable or no longer exist may not receive it. We recommend checking that all recipient addresses are correct and active before scheduling.
I didn't receive my letter. What should I do?
First, take a look in your spam or junk folder. If it's not there, please get in touch with us at support@psfuturemail.com and we'll help you sort it out. We'd also suggest adding us to your address book so future letters land in your inbox. In the meantime, you can always open your dashboard to read any letters that have already been delivered and add reflections - your words are saved there too.
Does PSFutureMail show ads?
No. PSFutureMail does not display ads. Your letters and your experience on the site remain ad-free. We fund the service through subscriptions for users who want to send more than one letter per year.
Which email providers work with PSFutureMail?
We deliver to any valid email address. Whether you use Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, ProtonMail, or another provider, your letter will be sent to the inbox associated with that address. Make sure your email is active and that you can receive messages on the scheduled delivery date.
What are public letters?
Public letters are letters that writers choose to share anonymously with the community. If you opt in, your letter can appear on our public letters page after it's delivered, so others can read and be inspired by it. Sharing is optional - your letters are private by default.
